Preamble

This year IIT(BHU) is celebrating 100 Years of its establishment. The founder of Banaras Hindu University, the great visionary Bharat Ratna Mahamana Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya used to believe that our tradition has acquired an enormous amount of knowledge and we should explore that knowledge for our development. A Japanese Scholar Professor K. Okakura said,“We catch a glimpse of the great river of science which never ceases to flow in India. India has carried and scattered the data of intellectual progress for the whole world, ever since the pre-Buddhist period when she produced the Sankhya philosophy and the atomic theory”. Swami Vivekananda enunciated a thought that theories of modern science are nothing but the echoes of Vedic philosophy. He with a deep understanding of cosmology and eschatology of Vedanta once wrote that he clearly sees their perfect union with modern science, and the elucidation of the one will be followed by that of the other. The present era demands a dialogue between Vedic and Modern science so that right place and value may be given to both sciences. Hence a better sustainable and harmonious world may evolve.

Details of the Conference

To meet the above-said goals IIT(BHU) has decided to organize the conference entitled, “A Dialogue between Vedic and Modern Sciences” on Sept 21-22, 2019. This event will be organized by IIT(BHU) in collaboration with Vijnana Bharti and Vedic Vijnana Kendra, BHU. This event is aiming towards the participation of the academic/research/industry world. It will be a two-day event. There will be four sessions every day. The first two common sessions are inaugural and plenary session. After these sessions the participants will be divided into 7 groups i.e., Paryāvaraṇa, Bhāṣā, Yāṅtrikī, Vāstu/Sthāpatya, Khagola/Gaṇita/Jyotiṣa, Rasāyana, and Ayurveda & Yoga, as per their interests for brainstorming sessions. The last but one session of round table meetings will discuss the future plans. It will pave the way for future education, research, and outreach programs in these areas. The concept note of each seven streams will be discussed in the last valedictory session.

The Keynote speech will be given by an eminent Indian American Computer Scientist Dr. Subhash Kak of Oklahoma State University, USA. He is also a member of Indian Prime Minister’s Science, Technology and Innovation Advisory Council. He has kindly agreed to be present in the entire conference.

About IIT BHU

The Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) owes its existence to Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Bharat Ratna – the founder of the first residential university of modern India, the Banaras Hindu University, who could foresee the important role of technical education in strengthening independent India. The three of the erstwhile engineering colleges of BHU, namely BENCO, MINMET and TECHNO, were merged to form the Institute of Technology (IT-BHU) in 1968 to provide an integrated educational base. The IT-BHU has been admitting students through the JEE conducted by the IIT's since 1972, and has been consistently ranked amongst the top few engineering institutions of the country. IT-BHU became IIT (BHU) in June 29, 2012 by an Act of Parliament. The Institute has maintained high academic standard since its inception. It has turned out luminary engineers and administrators who served the nation with great distinction. The current student strength is about 5722 with 4183 UGs, 675 MTechs and 864 PhD students.
